Catrina workshop in mexico city.

Catrinas are the most representative pieces of Mexican Art for the day of the dead, however, through our workshop, on selected dates, you are able to create your own catrina from scratch anytime and take it home! Our workshop is about 4 hours in duration and includes all materials, explanation and guidance from a professional Mexican artist with more than 20 years of experience. Instead of buying Mexican art why not make it yourself and take it home, catrinas will be sized about 20cm so they will be perfect for you to take them with you. We offer this workshop on a fixed schedule of dates and also for private groups.

Craft Workshop

Mexican Catrina workshop

Discover one of Mexico’s most iconic Day of the Dead traditions in our Catrina Workshop at Coco’s Workshops Mexico. In a small and friendly group, you’ll create and decorate your own Catrina using traditional cartonería (Mexican papier-mâché) techniques. Catrinas are elegant skeleton figures that have become one of the most recognizable forms of Mexican folk art associated with Día de Muertos. Inspired by La Catrina, they remind us that death is something shared by everyone, regardless of wealth or social status, while celebrating life, memory, and Mexican culture through creativity, color, and humor. During the workshop, each participant can personalize their Catrina from head to toe, choosing colors, patterns, clothing, facial details, and decorative elements to give it its own personality. Your Catrina can be traditional, elegant, colorful, playful, or completely original—no two creations have to look alike! Working in a small group allows for more individual guidance while you learn about the history and symbolism behind these fascinating figures. At the end of the experience, you’ll take home a unique handmade piece of Mexican folk art created by you and a special reminder of the traditions surrounding Day of the Dead in Mexico.
